Do you remember February of 2020 when everything was, well, normal? We could all get together without a care, travel freely and even enjoy a nice meal out. At the time, we did not know how good we had it. These simple things do not seem trivial anymore and despite the good fortune that many of us had at the time, there were still many of us struggling to make ends meet. With the onslaught of COVID-19 in March of 2020, these struggles became real for several more in our community and this holiday season, we aimed to give back.
How did we tackle this? Knowing that this December would be unlike any other, we chose to focus on family and loved ones. During difficult times, those closest to you can help alleviate the stresses and anxieties that come with unforeseen circumstances.
Along with the Hustle & Heart Real Estate Group and Hawkwood Community Association, we ran a ToyDonation drive on behalf of the Calgary Firefighters Toy Association. In many ways, children are the most vulnerable during this holiday season as they may lack the understanding that their parents are struggling. We wanted to help as much as we could and we even donated three Nintendo Switches to the fundraiser!
Nutritious food can be hard to come by when you are on a tight budget. To help combat hunger, we donated to the Calgary Food Bank and spread the word for those looking to do the same. Nobody should have to go to sleep on an empty stomach especially at a time of year that celebrates family and togetherness.
We are huge advocates for animal rights and safety. Along with donating to the Calgary Humane Society during the calendar year, we continued with our “Like, Share & Donate” campaign through Facebook. We’ll post a photo of your lost
pet and for every like & share of the post, we’ll donate $0.50 to the Humane Society! Over the years, we’ve raised thousands of dollars for this worthy cause.
We are not trying to toot our own horn – we are showing that every little bit counts and that helping others goes a long way into making your own holiday season more fulfilling. It is the season of giving after all!
